{"id":430,"date":"2025-10-14T08:19:00","date_gmt":"2025-10-13T22:19:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dev.customs.gov.pg\/?p=430"},"modified":"2026-01-22T23:21:27","modified_gmt":"2026-01-22T13:21:27","slug":"immediate-moratorium","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dev.customs.gov.pg\/index.php\/2025\/10\/14\/immediate-moratorium\/","title":{"rendered":"Immediate Moratorium"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On the Issuance of New Alcohol Manufacturing Licenses and Re-Issuance of Dormant Licenses<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-text-color has-accent-5-color has-alpha-channel-opacity has-accent-5-background-color has-background is-style-dots\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Pursuant to Section 5 of the Excise Act 1956 and all other powers enabling, this serves to inform the general public that PNG Customs will as of 19th October 2025, impose a moratorium on all applications for new Alcohol Manufacturing Licenses and all applications for existing dormant licenses, until further notice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The moratorium is deemed necessary as a result of widespread non-compliance of alcohol manufacturing operators, and the increase in adverse social impacts and public health concerns.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The moratorium will allow PNG Customs to carry out the following:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Strengthen enforcement mechanisms against non-compliant operators.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Conduct a thorough audit of the existing regulatory framework.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Develop more robust policies and implement control measures.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Reassess our capacity and re-strategize to manage the sector effectively<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Current active license holders are reminded that this moratorium does not absolve them of their responsibility to adhere strictly to all existing license conditions, laws, and regulations.
